CHAPTER SEVEN

Denver stretched in his chair and stared out at the fading strains of sunlight. The fireflies sparkled out on the lawn. He glanced over at Jett and smothered a smile. Being with him was oddly homey and nice. He still battled with his feelings about Jett and the relationship, the more time they spent together, the fonder he grew toward Jett. Sure, the feelings were happening a tad early—this was only the first date and he had no guarantee there would be more—but he wanted to keep trying.

He dropped his hands onto his lap and bumped the bulge in his jeans. Shit. He’d gone a long time without sex. Maybe it was the kiss or the time without a partner, but he needed to fuck. He rubbed his erection through the denim. Slight adjustments or a shift in his position on the chair weren’t going to do him any good. He needed release—with Jett.

He swiped his thumb across his phone long enough to check the time. Half past nine. Not quite time for fireworks, but the sky was plenty dark. Something flashed on the screen. A text from Clover.

Did u fuk him yt?

Jesus. She wouldn’t leave him alone unless he answered… but the night wasn’t about her. He switched the phone from vibrate to silent. No one needed him that badly that it couldn’t wait until later.

“This is nice,” Jett said, grabbing Denver’s attention. “I hear the cows and the crickets.”

“You can usually hear the traffic on the road and the train outside of town, too.” Denver folded his hands over his erection. “If you go up on the top of the silo, you can see forever.”

“I’m not wild about heights, but that sounds cool.” Jett balled up the paper from his burger and collected up the garbage. He stuffed the refuse into the bag. “I miss the silence. There’s never any silence at the apartment. If you can’t hear the people on the other side of the wall doing God only knows what, there’s the traffic. Then there’s the lights. Some nights I like things dark—you know, make the world go away stuff, but I can’t seem to block out the lights.”

“That’s why I like it out here. No one is on the other side of the wall, as you say, or to see me. I can stroll around the house naked if I so desire.” See how Jett liked that tidbit. Denver tucked his left foot under his right leg.

Jett’s eyes widened. “Do you—stroll naked?”

“Did you want to watch?” He met Jett’s gaze and didn’t look away. He liked the challenge he’d volleyed. How would Jett reply?

“If I said yes, would you do it?” Jett snapped his mouth shut.

Denver smiled and left his chair. The man had a wonderful meek side. He’d always assumed Jett was the bottom when he saw Jett and Deiken together. He liked being in control in the relationship and needed someone who could take direction. Would Jett do that for him? The only way he’d know for sure was to try.
